Eurasian Brown Bear

A selection of my favourite brown bear images, captured over the last four years in the taiga forest in Finland.

Consideration

A brown bear hides behind an old pine tree, looking directly into camera. Just as the sun was about to set, this lone brown bear emerged, giving me only a split second to frame and capture this shot.
Shadows

A large male brown bear sniffs the air inquisitively. This brown bear stopped by the side of the lake to inspect the area. Sometimes you can find a new perspective by switching to black and white.
Reflection

A brown bear, seen from the rear, looks golden as he pauses by the lake at sunset. As the sun drops, you can often find a much bigger contrast in a landscape, for example here, the way the light hits the lake, the bear and the trees, creating much more depth to the image.
Walk on the wild side

A brown bear, looking almost black in the bright sunlight, stalks through grassland, with a wolf in soft focus in the background. This was a dominant brown bear.
Bear Stare

A large brown bear stares directly into camera – a full head shot. This brown bear walked into the frame, filling the viewfinder, creating a wonderful full frame portrait.
